Supporting Para Karate Athlete Joseph Clifton – April 2025 Update
We’re proud to share the latest update from our sponsored athlete, Joseph Clifton, who continues to represent Para Karate at a national and international level with dedication and determination.
The first few months of 2025 have been relatively quiet on the competition front, which is common in the sport — particularly as many regional events still don’t offer categories for Para athletes. However, national competitions are gradually becoming more inclusive, and Joseph remains focused and ready for every opportunity.
Despite the slow start, Joseph kicked off the year in impressive form, securing a silver medal for England at the British Karate Federation Grand Slam in Durham this January — a fantastic achievement.
With spring now underway, Joseph’s competition schedule is picking up. He’ll be representing his club, Abel Karate, at several key national events in April and May, including:
- The English Karate Federation National Championships in Sheffield
- The Southern England Karate Open in Kent
- The EKF E1 Series in Manchester
While it was disappointing for Joseph not to be selected for the European Senior Championships in Armenia — due to a significantly reduced athlete delegation — he is still aiming to compete at the World Karate Federation Para Karate Cup in Croatia this June, depending on updates to the age category eligibility.
Training continues to be a major focus for Joseph. He’s been working hard to refine his technique — a particularly challenging element for Para athletes due to the discipline and precision required. His routine includes weekly 1:1 sessions with his coach, regular training with his club, monthly sessions with the National Para Squad, and consistent practice at home using tailored exercises from his coach.
April has been especially busy for him, with two competitions, a four-day intensive karate course, and an important grading for his next belt.
We’re incredibly proud to support Joseph on his journey. His commitment to personal excellence and his efforts to raise awareness of Para Karate are truly inspiring. We look forward to following his progress in the coming months and sharing more of his successes with you.
